Broadband is…
Broadband is a term which refers to a signaling method which includes or handles a relatively wide range of frequencies which are divided into channels or frequency bins. Broadband Internet access, often shortened to “broadband Internet” or just “broadband”, is just a high data-transmission rate Internet connection. Broadband is often called high-speed Internet, because it has a high rate of data transmission
The standard broadband technologies in most areas are DSL and Cable Modems. Both are popular consumer broadband technologies and are typically capable of transmitting faster than a dial-up modem.
Cable Modem service enables cable operators to provide broadband using the same coaxial cables that deliver pictures and sound to your TV set. With Cable Broadband there is a higher chance of maintaining a constant broadband speed compared to DSL services. Most cable modems are external devices that have two connections, one to the cable wall outlet and the other to a computer.
Digital Subscriber Link (DSL) is a wire line transmission technology that transmits data faster over traditional copper telephone lines already installed you homes and businesses. DSL-based broadband providers transmission speeds range from several hundred Kbps to millions of bits per second (Mbps).
In general, both broadband technologies are good choices for the average consumer. Most every major metropolitan area has providers for each. Although cable based broadband often supports higher speeds, most consumers simply appreciate the always-on availably of Internet access; making the lower price tag of DSL access very appealing.
